Providing children’s activities for a variety of different community organisations, giving them a break from their normal routine, to have fun and lift their spirits through engaging activities.
After School Club
Respite activities with the children from families with the Women’s Refuge.
Volunteers organise and lead activities that offer friendship, challenge and bring joy to the children who attend this club. We bring together children aged 5-11 from the After-School Club who are either fleeing domestic violence or have become homeless for a range of different reasons. Building connections between the children and the volunteers is important to us as it makes them feel cared for and happy as they take part in fun games, outside play and much more.
Respite activities with the children of homeless families staying at the temporary accommodation at Griffin Place.
Volunteers get involved with designing and leading activities in much the same way that is offered at the After School Club, with encouraging friendships and building social connections, fun play together and challenging activities, but with more children (5-11 year olds) attending the activities tend to be more varied in each session.
Covid19 Activity Adaptations
Activities for all children’s projects have changed to a more remote and digital platform, (click AYA’s Digital Volunteering to read more about AYA’s adapted activities in response to the pandemic). Which offers alternative remote activities that you can do at home.
All volunteers can join the Beams Action Group on zoom to design and plan the activities through the pandemic and beyond. Face to face activities will be phased in when restrictions allow and volunteers/community partner are happy to do so, respecting all Covid19 government regulations. We would like to get activities running in the New Year that include Zoom Groups and Podcasts, alongside lots of other exciting activities.
Zoom Groups: social chat and fun games or activities that can be performed virtually ie music, arts/crafts, verbal word play games, educational games and other fun.
Podcasts: creating recordings of fun tips and knowledge sharing or reading short stories that the children can listen to in their spare time.
